Brief Information:
It is believed that the chakras can only be felt once you are into deep meditative state or higher-level yogic practice. While the chakras are our energy centers always available and accessible to all of us for basic functioning. Surprisingly a complete nonspiritual person belonging to any culture or religion has experienced them. At the level of energy and resonance everything can be considered a vibration of sound. The entire existence is vibrating at certain frequency, the music, the creaking sound of chalk over the black board, the sound of bansuri, violen, wind etc. These all sounds are received and felt at a particular area or spot in the body physiology. The 7 energy centers, chakras are situated in the central part of the spinal cord and can be felt at various occasion in times of some performance or in times of extreme emotions. The Sanskrit word ‘chakra’ means ‘wheel’ or ‘discus’ and implies something that is turning or spinning.
History:
A couple of decades ago, it was believed that the seven chakras are worth only for spiritual development. However, recent scientific studies have proven the opposite, uncovering several regulatory chakras in the human body are deeply related to human psychology []. The chakras are first referred to in the Yoga Kundalini Upanishad that is part of the Krishna Yajur Veda, said to be written between 1,400BC and 1,000BC. Other sources put the dates for the Upanishads as between 800BC and 400BC. Later Upanishads were written down between 200BC and 200AD, namely Shri Jabala Darshana Upanishad, Cudamini Upanishad, Yoga Tattva Upanishad, Yoga-Shikka Upanishad and Shandila Upanishad. These refer to chakras, the five elements and bija mantras []
Relationship with Kundalini Shakti:
“The Chakras are centers of Shakti as vital force. These are the centers of Prana Shakti manifested by Pranavayu in the living body.” “Glory to Mother Kundalini who, through Her Infinite Grace and Power, kindly leads the Sadhaka from Chakra to Chakra and illumines him and makes him realize his identity with the Supreme Brahman!”
As mentioned in Yoga Kundalini Upanishad Kundalini, the serpent-power or mystic fire is the primordial energy or Shakti that lies dormant or sleeping in the Muladhara Chakra, the centre of the body. It is called the serpentine or annular power on account of serpentine form. It is an electric fiery occult power, the great pristine force which underlies all organic and inorganic matter. Through meditation and sadhana, a yogi can take the Kundalini from the Muladhara to the Sahasrara or the thousand-petalled Lotus in the crown of the head. This process is called Shakti Chalana. Passing through all chakras the Kundalini Shakti passes to the Ajna Chakra between the eyebrows or the Trikuti.
Positions of Chakras:
The base chakra Muladhara is in the anus. Svadhishthana is near the genital organ. Manipuraka is in the navel. Anahata is in the heart.” “The Vishuddhi Chakra is at the root of the neck. The sixth Chakra, the Ajna is in the head (between the two eyebrows)”. “After gaining a knowledge of these six Mandalas or spheres, one should enter the Sukhamandala, drawing up the Vayu and sending it upwards”. “After knowing Vayu, the above-mentioned Bindu and the Sattva-Prakriti as well as the six Chakras, one should enter the sphere of happiness, Sahasrara or the SukhaMandala.
This Chakra of the Nadis should ever be known by the Yogins. The three Nadis Ida, Pingala and Susumna are said to carry Prana always and have as their Devatas, moon, sun and Agni.” “Ida is on the left side and Pingala on the right side, while the Susumna is in the middle. These three are known to be the paths of Prana.“Above the aforesaid triangle, one should meditate on the five Bija (seed) letters of (the elements) Prithvi (Earth), etc., as also on the five Pranas, the colour of the Bijas and their position. The letter ‘Ya’ is the Bija of Prana and resembles the blue cloud. The letter ‘Ra’ is the Bija of Agni, is of Apana and resembles the sun. “The letter ‘La’ is the Bija of Prithvi (Fire), is of Vyana and resembles Bandhuka flower. The letter ‘Va’ is the Bija of Jiva (or Vayu), is of Udana and is of the colour of the conch. “The letter ‘Ha’ is the Bija of Akasa, is of Samana and is of the colour of crystal. Prana stays in the heart, navel, nose, ear, foot, finger and other places, travels through the seventy-two thousand Nadis, stays in the twenty-eight Crores (thousands) of hair-pores and is yet the same everywhere.
Muladhara-
A blocked root chakra can manifest as physical issues like arthritis, constipation, and bladder or colon problems, or emotionally through feeling insecure about finances or our basic needs and well-being. When it’s in alignment and open, we will feel grounded and secure, both physically and emotionally.
Swadishthan-
Issues with this chakra can be seen via problems with the associated organs, like urinary tract infections, lower back pain, and impotency. Emotionally, this chakra is connected to our feelings of self-worth, and even more specifically, our self-worth around pleasure, sexuality, and creativity.
Manipura-
Blockages in the third chakra are often experienced through digestive issues like ulcers, heartburn, eating disorders, and indigestion. It’s the chakra of our personal power. This means it’s related to our self-esteem and self-confidence.
Anahata-
Blocks in our heart chakra can manifest in our physical health through heart problems, asthma, and weight issues. But blocks are often seen even more clearly through people’s actions. People with heart chakra blocks often put others first, to their own detriment. It’s the middle of the seven chakras, so it bridges the gap between our upper and lower chakras, and it also represents our ability to love and connect to others. When out of alignment, it can make us feel lonely, insecure, and isolated.
Vishudhi-
As one would expect, this chakra is connected to our ability to communicate verbally. Voice and throat problems as well as any problems with everything surrounding that area, such as the teeth, gums, and mouth, can indicate a blockage. Blocks or misalignment can also be seen through dominating conversations, gossiping, speaking without thinking, and having trouble speaking your mind. When in alignment, you will speak and listen with compassion and feel confident when you speak because you know you are being true to yourself with your words.
Agna Chakra-
Since this chakra is physically located on the head, blockages can manifest as headaches, issues with sight or concentration, and hearing problems. People who have trouble listening to reality (who seem to “know it all”) or who are not in touch with their intuition may also have a block. When open and in alignment, it’s thought that people will follow their intuition and be able to see the big picture.
Sahasrara Chakra-
The crown chakra is linked to every other chakra (and therefore every organ in this system), and so it affects not just all those organs, but also our brain and nervous system. It is considered the chakra of enlightenment and represents our connection to our life’s purpose and spirituality. Those with a blocked crown chakra may seem narrow-minded, skeptical, or stubborn. When this chakra is open, it is thought to help keep all the other chakras open and to bring the person bliss and enlightenment. Blockages in Chakras: As these are all energetic centers of the body that correspond to feelings, one of them probably resonated with you as you were reading. A different one may resonate with you tomorrow. It’s likely that one resonates with you more than any others as a continuous problem, a chakra where you often deal with blocks. Other blockages may pop up every now and then. In the chakra system, these patterns have specific terms and there are recommended treatments. Each Chakra has a specific color, sound, and mudra. The sounds are always traced by a particular part of the body. The color is sometimes observed during meditation at particular chakra. The Mudra can be energy locked by a particular mudra.
